South Shields, United Kingdom • Recommendation •

National Trust property. A Grade 1 listed country house designed by Sir John Vanbrugh in 1718. Damaged by fire in 1822 it has remained an empty shell, but with the help of a National Lottery grant repairs are underway. Albeit a shell it is still a stunning building with beautiful gardens and well worth visiting.
