Not only can they appreciate the beautiful traditional Chinese architecture, there are also super cute shops dotted around the area!

Shop like local tourist (contradictory but true)! This old street has been converted to a modern shopping street where youngsters can feel hip in an “old” surrounding whilst still having the luxury of new shops and restaurants. Even though it can get very crowded on holidays (AVOID DURING HOLIDAYS) it is a great place to get your shopping done and get a feel of what young locals like!

The most breathtaking view of the Forbidden City is without doubt on this hill! Situated at the opposite end of the Forbidden City, most tourists tend to give up or completely miss this hill because they are either tired from trekking through the Forbidden City or the entrance just isn’t so obvious. It’s definitely worth the hike up this hill where you’ll be greeted by amazing views at the top.

If I were to choose between eating in a fancy restaurant where the food sucks or eating in a not so fancy restaurant with amazing food, I would definitely choose the latter!! This is one of the places! This is my favorite place to go for the famous Beijing Roast Duck. At Li Qun they traditionally roast the duck in a woodfire oven that gives it that extra smoky undertone that some restaurants lack. The wooden walls of this place reflects its rich history where countless photo frames of famous people from all around the world proudly hangs for all to see. NOTE: I highly recommend ONLY ordering the duck set with pancake, nothing else!

Located in a random hutong away from the bustling crowds, this is my favorite dessert place IN THE WORLD. Everyone I have recommended this place to have loved it and always go back. Upon entering you feel like you’ve been transported back to olden day China with wooden beams and zen music creating a calm environment. I highly recommend the blue dessert (looks like it’s from space) that has matcha and coconut inside!! Although I believe in hidden gems, I also believe in sharing to make more people fall in love with places. So, here is my heart in the form of a dessert shop ❤️

Located on an old alleyway with super cute shops and restaurants, Chi Restaurant is perfect for a cozy romantic date. My favorite dish was the scallop with corn mash, but all the other dishes were great too! The lobster pasta was on the small side, but that could just be me 🤷🏻♀️

I never thought I could consider being a vegetarian... until I came here. Located opposite the Lama Temple, this restaurant serves only high end vegetarian dishes. I was honestly very impressed because of the variety of textures and tastes which came together very well. I forgot I was eating vegetarian food at one point! If you want to dine like a king but also feel like a good Buddhist (or you simply want amazing vegetarian food) don’t miss out!

This hidden gem is so hidden that you wouldn’t believe there can possibly be an amazing Japanese restaurant in this dark and quiet alley. This tiny sushi bar serves the best sushi in town!! The service here is very friendly and attentive. The chef himself is very patient and knowledgeable and always greets his customers with a smile. Although language may be an issue, just point at your favorite fish on display at the sushi counter and he would magically make your sushi dream come true. I highly recommend ordering the Botan Ebi (giant sweet shrimp) nigiri and ask him to either deep fry the head or make delicious soup out of the head. Although more on the expensive side, I guarantee you it’s worth it!

💎💎💎HIDDEN GEM OF A GEM I.LOVE.THIS.RESTAURANT. This restaurant is the epitome of a hidden gem. You won’t find it on any other foreign platform because I only came across this on Dazhongdianping which is all in Chinese. If you have a chance to visit this place, you might think I’m joking when you first walk down this quiet dimly lit hutong (alleyway). The only way you’ll notice this restaurant is the dim sign of the restaurant in the front with a door next to it. Upon entering you’ll be greeted by kind waiters and the iconic curvy corridor that is lined with glass where you can see a mini forest of bamboos on the other side. Zen, yes zennnn feel it. This art gallery turned into restaurant is just pure art. From the paintings on the walls to the well presented food, everything is spotlighted (literally) to emphasize the beauty in everything. Who knew Yunnan ham could taste as good as Italian Parma ham? Don’t believe me? Go try it yourself and see the wonders of local produce in China! I highly recommend coming with some friends so you can each order different set menus. Prepare to taste and see miracles happen on your pa-late 🤩
