Located just an hour away from Sydney, Penrith Whitewater Stadium was the official venue for kayak and canoe events during the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000. It boasts a man-made whitewater course designed and built after an actual wild river! From September to June, the arena is open to the public for whitewater rafting, kayaking, and even swift water rescue training. Beginners and first-timers should seek the assistance of pro river guides, while self-guided trips are also offered for the daredevils-at-heart. Remember: you have to be physically fit, confident in the water, and a skilled swimmer before going on this wet and wild adventure!
Lake Wakatipu’s pristine waters drain into the Kawarau River, carving its own path through the gorge. It is renowned for AJ Hackett Bungy, the world’s first commercial bungy jumping site! Plummet 43 meters from the Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge and even touch Kawarau’s turquoise waters! Big crowds gather just to watch the action, so you’ll have plenty of people to cheer you on!
Kawarau River’s gushing waters are also a big draw. Steer your kayak through the narrow waterways and dominate the rapids! Riverboarding, on the other hand, will get you in closer contact with the turbulent river to ride the strong currents!
