Owakudani is an active volcanic zone set around a crater created by Mount Hakone's eruption from several thousand years ago. Sulphuric fumes still fill the air, so you're given a wet disposable towel to avoid inhaling too much of the stuff. The main reason I wanted to come here was to try the kuro tamago (Owakudani black eggs), which are eggs that are hard-boiled in the area's hot springs. It's believed that eating it adds seven years to your life! 🥚🔥
