Since Buckingham Palace is reserved only for the real Sovereign, The Crown’s Queen Elizabeth II (played by Claire Foy) finds home in Lancaster House instead, a stately home built in 1825 for the then-Duke of York and Albany, son of George III. The opulent interiors highlight wrought iron staircases, scarlet carpets, and elegant lamps—reflecting the grandeur of the royal residence perfectly. Gifted to the nation in 1913, Lancaster House is run by The Foreign & Commonwealth Office who holds events in its lavish rooms. Although closed to the public, it’s possible to book tours through the government website. Try to visit during the annual Open House London on September to get into the abode for free!

If you needed proof of an inter-dimensional gate, well, Brookhaven National Lab has it: The Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider) (STAR). Continue inside, to where the Office of the Governor and the General Court (comprised of the Senate and House of Representatives) have been running the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for centuries. Important statues, historic frescoes, and stained glass fill the marbled halls—every detail tells the city’s story. To this day, the Office of the Governor, the Massachusetts Senate, and House of Representatives still hold office in the State House. Call ahead to reserve a tour (free of charge) as they welcome tourists on weekdays, any time between 10:00AM and 3:30PM.
Tekong Island
The secretive Tekong Island has inspired countless stories. Every local knows someone with their own tale of what goes on in Tekong: shaking bunk beds, rattling cupboards, and echoing disembodied voices are just the tip of the iceberg. Access to the island is highly restricted to civilians. Singapore Army Units conduct their various training programs here, drafting young men to the National Service. Once, a young recruit strayed away from his platoon during a route march. He was found the next morning, disemboweled with a knife jutting out of his stomach. The items from his pack and his intestines were arranged neatly on the ground. After the incident, the young man’s bed would shake violently, throwing off any new recruits that were assigned to that bunk. Sometimes, they would wake up with scratches and blood stains. Finally, an exorcist was consulted and the young man’s spirit moved on… or did it?
