Secret Beach

Austin, United States • Recommendation •

It may have the word “secret” on its name, but Secret Beach is hardly hidden. It’s actually open for anyone who wants to cool off their jets, away from glaring deadlines or pending tasks. This little paradise promises calming waters, cerulean skies, and gorgeous greenery that circle the whole area. There are no beach umbrellas around, so bring one if sunbathing is a part of today’s activities. You can even catch turtles walking around here if you’re lucky!

Emma Long Metropolitan Park

Austin, United States • Recommendation •

Emma Long Metropolitan Park is so huge that there’s a designated swimming hole inside. Bring the kids here to let off some steam — visitors are welcome to set up a tent for the day before plunging into the water. Watch trees dance with the wind while waiting for some barbecue or take a short hike before cooling off. Why limit yourself to only a nice dip? You can’t leave this park without giving kayaking a try, too!

Swimming is more fun with your friends in tow, so go ahead and schedule that long-overdue reunion. Krause Springs is about 30 miles northwest of Austin, but the trip is well worth it. There are 32 springs in total, including a couple of man-made swimming baths and a natural pool that flows into Lake Travis! Make a note to bring slip-proof shoes because you don’t want to accidentally stumble among the sea of rocks here!

Hamilton Pool Preserve

Austin, United States • Recommendation •

This natural spectacle was born following the collapse of an underground river thousands of years ago, so it looks like it came straight out of a summer movie. Everything is pristine, with the gush of a tiny waterfall nearby playing like a cradle song. Visitors can also say a quick hello to deers, possums, and porcupines inhabiting the park. Your much-needed dip may have to wait a bit if you want to visit Hamilton Pool Reserve as swimming activities are not allowed at the moment, but you can bookmark this post for future reference!

Austin, United States • Recommendation •

Everyone in Austin knows West Lake Beach. It’s been around since 1954, so even your parents probably have stories to tell if you ask them. This swimming hole began as a go-to picnic spot for families, then grew into a full-fledged recreational space. It now has a large pavilion, boat stalls, picnic tables, and barbecue grills for the perfect relaxing afternoon. There's also a beach volleyball court pleading to see some action after a nice swim. Before you know it, the sun’s down, and you just had a day well-spent.

Bring out the cooler and beach chairs! Blue Hole Regional Park is your quick gateway to put your feet up after a long, back-breaking week. It only takes a 45-minute drive to enter this paradise outside Austin. The icy-cold water is just what you need to soothe those tired muscles, with deep and shallow areas to pamper all ages. If you’re feeling a little adventurous, take the rope swings and show your best dive! It’s not for impromptu me-time, though, as reservations are required here.
