IMAGINIA Playland - Closed

2 saves

Bangkok, Thailand • Recommendation •

On the 3rd floor of Emporium shopping mall is this large and well run play area for kids. It can be loud and busy at weekends but there are lots of ways for kids aged between 1-5 to blow off steam. There’s a mix of physical activities like climbing nets and bikes and a giant slide as well as more creative art and music areas. It’s slickly run, for example in several areas you can scan your RFID wristband and email a photo of your kid to yourself.

Screen 7 at this upmarket cinema in Emquartier is the Kids cinema open on weekends. The house lights are kept up and there are a ball pit and slide for the kids to play on while the movie is on. Durint the week it's a regular cinema, albeit nobody is stopping you from diving in the ballpit if you want :) Saw Lion King here! (Fun but think the original was still better)

Lilliput Kids cafe & Restaurant

1 save

Bangkok, Thailand • Recommendation •

First Thailand outpost of a Korean franchise of premium kids cafes. They've clearly put a lot of time and effort into making it kid and parent friendly, everything is well maintained and frequently cleaned. Compared to similar cafes likes Sunny Side Up and Mari Go Round it's bigger and has some cool features like a beautiful working carousel, and the food in the cafe is prepared freshly. BUT they plan to charge 900 baht/session (currently it's 450 during soft opening) which seems very overpriced given the competition.

Karaoke Manekineko

Bangkok, Thailand • Wishlist •

I miss going to sing Karaoke! This Japanese chain opened up recently in the family friendly Donki Mall. Book a room for 4-20 people, pick your songs from the tablets, then sing your heart out while enjoying free soft drinks and ice cream (adult beverages are available if that's what's needed to make you sing). They have a special room for kids with toys to keep the kids distracted if your singing is too terrible.

Huge indoor play area for kids on 5th floor of Gateway Ekkamai. Free entry if under 80cm (you just pay adult entrance 180baht) and a fun toddler area with slides, ball pit, soft play, dress up games. Above 80cm it's 440baht for 4 hours. The best slides and obstacle courses are for 100cm+ including an enormous slide down a volcano, roller rink and cycling track. Ideal for kids between 2 and 10. The Little Gym Thonglor

1 save

Bangkok, Thailand • Recommendation •

My daughter loved her first gymnastics class at this gym. The staff seem to love kids and the 45 minute sessions integrate music and dancing, bubble blowing, as well as playing on the gym equipment. Parents have to wear masks and socks, kids go barefoot. After a trial class you need to buy a package of 12 or 24 lessons but you can use them flexibly as they have classes every day of the week.

Miniso @Terminal 21

1 save

Bangkok, Thailand • Recommendation •

I admit I was completely fooled by Miniso's marketing. It seems to be a Japanese store, think the aesthetic of Muji or Uniqlo, but everything is extra cute and cuddly. They have branded deals with Marvel, Sesame Street, Bare Bears and others, so you can find anything from soft toys to pencil cases, cushions, homewares. It's the only store I've been to I just want to give every item in the store a big hug. Back to the branding, turns out Miniso is about as Japanese as Haagen-Dasz is Danish ;) It was founded in Guangzhou!

Treasure Factory Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand • Recommendation •

Kids can be expensive! This japanese second hand store is a good way to pick up toys, and things like car seats, strollers and so on as reasonable prices. Everything is in good condition. Prices are clearly marked and it's probably worth googling the price to buy items new for comparison, since not everything is that cheap. They also have a counter where you can sell unwanted stuff to them.

Steps

1 save

Bangkok, Thailand • Recommendation •

Steps with Theera is a really worthwhile organization in Bangkok which helps and hires neurodiverse youngsters and trains them. If you would like to help people with special educational needs, it just got a lot easier with the opening of their new branch out to the Commons in thonglor. The coffee shop and cafe is right next door to the sunny side up play group so I often grab a cup of coffee while my daughter attends next door. Very child friendly with toys and books for the kids and help for people with additional sensory needs.

Benchakitti Park Phase 3

1 save

Bangkok, Thailand • Recommendation •

Bangkok suffers from a lack of green spaces. As part of a Green Bangkok 2030 project the city is building new parks. I recently visited the "soft opened" Benchakitti Park Phase 3 and was impressed! It's a huge new extension to the existing park next to Queen Sirikit convention centre. You can enter on foot at the south end of Sukhumvit Soi 10 (the other pedestrian gates are not open yet) and once you are inside you feel a world away from Bangkok. There are dedicated cycle lanes and pedestrian paths and skywalks, crisscrossing a huge green area of trees, scrub and wetlands. At the moment there are few facilities besides some toilets, so bring drinks and snacks. Best to visit early morning or after 4pm when it's not too hot - though there was more shade than I expected i wouldn't go for a jog here in the midday Bangkok sun! This will definitely be a jewel in the crown on Bangkok once fully open, so come visit before the crowds arrive.
