Some of my favourite UNESCO world heritage sites I've visited in Asia!
This is a car-free island a short ferry ride away from Xiamen. It's a quiet and peaceful place - at least if you can avoid the hordes of tourists! Come on a weekday, or stay overnight at one of the few small hotels on the island you'll likely have a not peaceful stay. Known as Piano Island, Gulangyu is known for its music and you can visit the Piano Museum to see some historic examples and hear a recital.
Gulangyu, Siming, Xiamen, China
Often noted amongst the natural wonders of the world, the bay contains 1969 islands including towering limestone karsts. The traditional activity is to take a cruise, which may take 1-3 days and include activities such as kayaking, visiting caves and villages, and cooking classes. Prices and levels of luxury vary dramatically between different tour operators, so research what kind of experience you want to have first, from a basic party boat for backpackers to a luxury private cruise.
Hạ Long Bay, Thành phố Hạ Long, Quảng Ninh, Vietnam
Sadly travel restrictions make travel to Iran tricky at the moment but this royal palace dating to the time to the Qajar dynasty is definitely on my bucket list. Architectural marvels include the Edifice of the Sun. 🌞

A unique city in the Phillipines recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site! There are many colonial buildings and churches dating from the Spanish occupation between the 16th and 18th centuries. The architectural style is sometimes known as "earthquake baroque" as buildings were built lower and stronger than in Europe due to the Phillipines' frequent earthquakes!
Ilocos Sur, Philippines
Jeju island has been on my wish list for a while and another good reason to go is that its volcanic caves and lava tubes are a UNESCO world heritage site. The caves are some of the largest in the world and will form when molten magma was forced through the rock in the volcanic island.
