Japan has a number of animal cafes: cats, reptiles, and even hedgehogs. Ikefukurou Cafe, however, takes it up a notch by bringing owls into the metropolis! The cafe is mostly for wildlife encounters, but you’ll overlook that once you start holding your new wide-eyed fluffy friends—some even came from abroad! Reservations are necessary, so don’t hesitate and shoot them an e-mail.
Playing with an owl is quite an experience. At Owl Cafe Owl Village, a special room serves as the home of these majestic birds. There are several kinds here, from Barn Owls to an Indian Eagle Owl. Get up close as they perch upon your arm (don’t worry, you’ll be closely supervised!). Be mindful because their talons are sharp, but you’ll be fitted with a protective glove to ensure safety. The actual play time lasts about 35 minutes, then you’re escorted to the outer room for refreshments.
