Chez Georges

Unexpected find. It started raining and the choice was between food nationalities: Italian, Spanish, everywhere or Belgian? Chez George’s is the Belgian one. Small, dark, a little smelly. With the smell of rubber and old people. We got a table downstairs because the waiter is old and didn’t want to get up to mezzanine level. But, this table was next to the chefs kingdom. We asked for chef recommendation. He is the only one working here, next to maitre de tables. And what a good choice it was! Open treat was a delicious lobster soup. Followed by a combination of Scottish salmon, foie gras terrine, ratatouille and the most amazing lobster base sauce ever. Ingredients: lobster, butter, butter and creme. Main was asparagus with either excellently done beef (chef didn’t ask how we would like it, he just decided how it’s best), or alternatively tourbot that couldn’t have been done better. The accompanying wines, a unusual strong Sancerre and an classy Italian red, which name I forgot, were exceptional. Finally a classic: crepes suzette. And we were in heaven! We left not before taking a selfie with the chef, who was singing Jacques Brel chansons all night long, and a handshake from the maitre. Highly, highly recommended.
