Alba Restaurante Español

Cochinillo seems to be the hottest commodity this Christmas season. I have inquired in several restaurants and most of the cochinillo are sold out already. We just love the suckling pig because it is just the right size to be the star of our Noche Buena table . In our family, the opening of gifts and celebration of Christmas happens at the stroke of midnight on Dec 24. In the meantime, virtual Christmas parties are happening all around. We are still bonding over food but in the safety of our own homes . A couple of days ago we enjoyed Alba’s half an order of cochinillo and Paella Valenciana & Negra. Alba’s Restaurante Espanol have been in the business since 1952 and continues to be the family’s favorite Spanish restaurant to date. Their suckling pig or cochinillo was crunchy on the outside and so tender and moist on the inside, it was wiped out in no time. It did not hurt that it was not ostentatiously expensive and was reasonably priced at P3,000 for half the size. Their order list was as long as your arm though and I’m pretty sure they are already booked until New Year’s eve. But you can try . Dont forget to try their paella’s too !

Less than week to go before Christmas ! 🎄🥂🎁 How about a Taiwanese-themed Noche Buena 🎄😋❤️ Tried their Squash in Salted egg P187. Loved the salted egg component which gave a new twist to the fried squash Shao Mai 6pcs P221 were a delight too. You can not help but pop them in your mouth one after the other. For pigging out, try their Spicy Spare Ribs P1,150. The ribs were chunky and flavorful , it paired well with the fried rice w/ shrimp and egg P350+ Just dm @shilinph for your orders

It was my birthday and what better excuse to break the family’s 9 month quarantine and breathe in fresh air than Spiral Manila. Truth be told, we needed the brief respite. Cabin fever had set in and seeing the same faces each day in the same space for 248 days was no longer amusing. So booked a table at Spiral on a Sunday last November. Sofitel Manila’s protocol was pretty strict which was assuring for paranoid us. Better safe than sorry is our motto. Reservations were a must. Only guests above 15 and below 60 years old were allowed to dine in. Face shield and face masks were a must Upon alighting from our vehicle, we queued for less than a minute minding the social distance. Our temperatures were taken. We filled in the health questionnaire online and were led by the hotel receptionists to the spacious waiting area until we were called in batches of 10 to proceed to the Resto which was an escalator down In the Resto , our batch was called and as a group were given a brief orientation on buffet-pandemic style 1. Buffet is one way . We are to follow the arrows & mind social distancing with the social distancing signs on the floor 2. Each of the 21 station had acrylic barriers 3. We just need to tell the chef what we want 4. If there are waiting time ie we want our lobsters or steak done a certain way, we are given a number and asked to come back for it after a few minutes We were also positioned a seat apart on our table with plate settings guiding us to where we are supposed to sit. The buffet includes non-alcoholic beverages for P3500. If you want a buffet including unlimited wine & champagne just pay the P4500 price. Those with Accor privilege card get 20% off on their bill Spiral Manila is considered the metro’s buffet of all buffets. There are 21 ateliers to choose from . I gravitated mostly towards the French section where I enjoyed foie gras. steak & sea bass. I also loved the cheese & charcuterie room where the gamut of cheese to choose from was enough to make your head spin. The fresh seafood section was also a fave. Their oysters were to die for! That huge tub of lobsters also beckoned. I skipped the Japanese section. There was unagi but no uni sadly. Oh well we can not have everything The area were Indian cuisine is a specialty was an exciting find too . I enjoyed watching them make naan from scratch All in all, it was a sublime experience after being locked up for 9 months

It was my first time to taste Scouts Honor’s Cookies clueless that it was crafted by the same Chef who owns Workshop which makes our favorite 17 layer Chocolate Cake & Le Petit Soufflé which is one of our go-to places when we find ourselves in Century Mall Makati That’s not to say I have not heard of the brand. The buzz is loud about how yummy and creative their cookies are. A few days ago , I was able to finally try their limited edition Holiday Cookies. Only Chef Miko Aspiras would be able to come up with a Christmas Cookie that is quintessentially Pinoy. I mean hello Bibingka Cookies (P110) complete with charred banana leaf! Makes one wonder if the cookie was baked ala Pinoy Bibingka ie fire under and on top. The slivers of salted egg on top made it an authentic version of the much loved Pinoy Christmas “cake” The brand also collaborated with Nestle Philippines for their Milo (P110) & KitKat (P220)Cookie variant. I suggest you get the Holiday Cookie Bundle though. For P600 you get the 3 Holidah Cookies above ( Bibingka, Milo, Kitkat), 6 Cub Scout Cookies, and a Craft Milk. You can enjoy the cookies or give them as Christmas gifts ! 🎄😍

Caviar Cake Manila

What better way to celebrate 2021 than with a festive Smoked Salmon Caviar Cake from Caviar Cake Manila. We discovered Caviar Cake Manila in IG via @PaulinoPremium. The family loves their cheese & charcuterie board and has a long standing tradition of enjoying such on important milestones. So decided to order Caviar Cake Manila’s 5” Caviar Cake grazing box with a small jar of truffle honey for P2000 and paid extra P750 for an upgrade of smoked salmon around and over the cake. It was so worth it. That Caviar Cake set a celebratory tone to our Media Noche signaling the start of the New Year party for our family of 7 I just made some pintxos to go with it plus bottles of wine on the side and we were all set to welcome 2021 . Must try. Just dm them for orders
