It was my birthday and what better excuse to break the family’s 9 month quarantine and breathe in fresh air than Spiral Manila. Truth be told, we needed the brief respite. Cabin fever had set in and seeing the same faces each day in the same space for 248 days was no longer amusing. So booked a table at Spiral on a Sunday last November. Sofitel Manila’s protocol was pretty strict which was assuring for paranoid us. Better safe than sorry is our motto. Reservations were a must. Only guests above 15 and below 60 years old were allowed to dine in. Face shield and face masks were a must Upon alighting from our vehicle, we queued for less than a minute minding the social distance. Our temperatures were taken. We filled in the health questionnaire online and were led by the hotel receptionists to the spacious waiting area until we were called in batches of 10 to proceed to the Resto which was an escalator down In the Resto , our batch was called and as a group were given a brief orientation on buffet-pandemic style 1. Buffet is one way . We are to follow the arrows & mind social distancing with the social distancing signs on the floor 2. Each of the 21 station had acrylic barriers 3. We just need to tell the chef what we want 4. If there are waiting time ie we want our lobsters or steak done a certain way, we are given a number and asked to come back for it after a few minutes We were also positioned a seat apart on our table with plate settings guiding us to where we are supposed to sit. The buffet includes non-alcoholic beverages for P3500. If you want a buffet including unlimited wine & champagne just pay the P4500 price. Those with Accor privilege card get 20% off on their bill Spiral Manila is considered the metro’s buffet of all buffets. There are 21 ateliers to choose from . I gravitated mostly towards the French section where I enjoyed foie gras. steak & sea bass. I also loved the cheese & charcuterie room where the gamut of cheese to choose from was enough to make your head spin. The fresh seafood section was also a fave. Their oysters were to die for! That huge tub of lobsters also beckoned. I skipped the Japanese section. There was unagi but no uni sadly. Oh well we can not have everything The area were Indian cuisine is a specialty was an exciting find too . I enjoyed watching them make naan from scratch All in all, it was a sublime experience after being locked up for 9 months
