Neuschwanstein means “New Swan Stone” - derived from an opera character, the Swan Knight. This castle was built for King Ludwig II. Although the architecture is incredibly extravagant, the castle seems to be missing a Throne Hall. The Throne Hall was not completed due to Ludwig’s death. This famous castle inspired The Sleeping Beauty Castle’s design in Disneyland.

It is situated on top of a gorge, overlooking the Alps. The beautiful castle plus the ostentatious view makes it one of the most photographed sites in all of Germany!
