Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao-Mountain Province Road, Banaue, Ifugao, Philippines

The 8th Wonder of the World lies in the Philippines. After killing millions of people and giving balance to the universe, Thanos sighed with relief and settled at Banaue Rice Terraces. While they didn’t actually go to the Philippines to shoot this scene, the fact that they included this in the movie is mind blowing. I was fortunate enough to visit the Banaue Rice Terraces when I was just a little girl and I must say my heart was filled with wonder and delight when I saw with my own two eyes the terraces. Even as a child, I thought of the people who actually made this wonder into a reality. It really deserves to be one of the great wonders of the world.

As you see the majestic Banaue Rice Terraces, you’ll understand why Thanos chooses the farm life after wiping out half of the universe. A National Cultural Treasure of the Philippines, the impressive feat of agriculture features handmade rice paddies sustained by an elaborate irrigation system that was created by local farmers to solve the problem of growing produce on weirdly-angled land. Watch yourself smiling gloriously as Thanos does—hopefully devoid of deviousness—as you wonder at the glorious UNESCO World Heritage site at Sunrise Viewpoint, where local Igorots (native tribe of the Ifugao province) greet you warmly with handcrafted wood carvings.

If you just want to relax and unwind, Mactan Island has a number of beaches. While many tourists book it out of the airport and head straight to the beaches of Cebu, Philippines, the ones who slow down to look around Mactan are the real winners.

Tre Cime di Lavarado is an excellent destination for the Star Wars fan-slash-alpinist. Featured in Solo: A Star Wars Story, these three distinctive tooth-like peaks are warmer in reality than in film. We can't say the same when you get to the top, though!
