Let's Get Lost In Los Baños

Calamba, Online, Alaminos

Los Baños is more than just a city to grab a bite of Lety’s Buko Pie (coconut meat pie) or satisfy your sweet tooth with a box of cake from Mer-Nel’s. It’s my home. My friends and I have a lot of hideaways around town where we chat about our lives and everything in between. Traveling on your own might be a little daunting to some, but I really don’t mind getting lost. Sometimes, going off course leads to unfamiliar destinations you’ll want to explore in a heartbeat. Any experience is an adventure if you are present and open to new experiences. Let me take you on a tour of my beautiful city and all the spots you can put up your feet like a local.

Milka Krem UP Los Baños

Calamba, Philippines • Recommendation •

It’s not a restaurant, but please, grab a liter of yummy chocolate milk at Milka Krem inside the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) campus. You won’t just support our local dairy farmers but also taste the creamiest carabao milk. It's a win-win! Other dairy products are also available if you need more than just milk to kick off your day.

Vatcave Eatery

Back in college, this restaurant was my go-to spot. Time flies so fast, but some things here remain the same just like the best Lechon Kawali I’ve ever tasted — crispy on the outside, succulent on the inside. Throw in some homemade Lumpiang Gulay (vegetable spring roll) on the side, and have a hearty lunch.

Ning's Thai

Calamba, Philippines • Recommendation •

Ning’s Thai has been here for as long as I can remember. Sometimes, it’s closed when the owners return to Thailand. Thankfully, they now have a dedicated dining spot where my favorite Pad Thai is served. Its fusion of sweet and savory flavors is a sure treat for your taste buds.

Salad Country

First opening its doors in 1994, Salad Country is one of Los Baños’ OG restaurants. Their Sisig and Kare-Kare both deserve more than just a double-thumbs up. I still order some for myself on special occasions! My aunt owns Salad Country and not to be biased here, but their dishes are simply delicious.

The UPLB campus is always an ideal biking zone. Everything is just so peaceful here, especially in the morning. For a more thrilling biking adventure, UPLB’s upper campus near Jamboree is all I need. The uphill is quite challenging with lots of hidden spots, but the downhill ride never fails to give me a good adrenaline rush.

Dampalit Falls

Calamba, Philippines • Recommendation •

It’s been decades since I last went here, but Dampalit Falls is always worth the travel despite its hilly route. Breathe in the fresh air as you take a relaxing plunge in the cold waters of this hidden gem. Anywhere you look, shrubs and rock formations are all around Dampalit Falls. This hidden paradise lets you unwind and reconnect with nature away from the city.

Flat Rocks

Alaminos, Philippines • Recommendation •

This water sanctuary always takes me back to unforgettable moments of self-meditation and hiking adventures with my friends. Choose a spot among the beautiful rock formations and let your feet play with the waters while enjoying a picturesque view of trees. Much better if you have a handy camera, so you can have beautiful photos to take home with you.

Calamba, Philippines • Recommendation •

Anywhere I can bring my bike and go on a long ride is always exciting to explore, like Pili Drive. Picture this: a quiet tree-lined road leading to the verdant fields outside of UPLB. Breathtaking! You also get a picture-perfect view of Mount Makiling as you go. It’s a romantic and calming spot for cyclists.
